It has been a good, solid year for WMCB and if you want to read more about the radio station accomplished this year you can read the year in review post that is right below this one. The station will be taking a break for the summer but will be back next semester in September with a new management team and new ideas and events for next year. Next year will be an exciting year as Libby Reif is the new Station Manager with Brian Mendola is the new Program Director.

With April coming to to and and the 2007-2008 school year ending as well, I figured I would take a look at WMCB has accomplished this season and what we can improve upon for next year.
Senior, Tony Rudolph was the Operations Manager this year with Kyle Skoney was the Station Manager. Chris Muscarella acted as the Program Director with Libby Reif assisting him. I was the Sports/News Director a position I will keep next semester. Natalie Schiavone and Mindi Smith were co-directors of promotions. Something that our promotions team did this year was get a few advertisers. This year they got Anderson’s Custard and Louie’s Texas Red Hots. A big part of the promotions team this year were freshmen, Sarah Parise and Katie Tammaro who helped Natalie with anything she needed them to do. This year transfer student Brian Mendola also know as Mendo, became a prominent member in first year as his show was a staple all year along. In fact, his show was one of the few shows that ran all year long. He became Music Director spring semester as he put all the music onto the computer for the station. It took many hours to complete. Next year, Mendo will be part of the management team.
On October 31 WMCB held the annual Halloween Remote. We played music on a stage set up in the Sullivan Center at 12:30. There was a Pumpkin Toss. Also, we had our What’s in the Pumpkin contest. We gave away gift certificates to Anderson’s and Louie’s Texas Red Hots. From October through Thanksgiving we held our WMCB clothing drive. WMCB members loaded all donations collected and took them downtown to a shelter in November. In December we had our Holiday Remote where we sang Christmas carols and wrapped students and professors in gift wrapping. We gave cool prizes as well.
In the spring semester, our big event was Star Search 2008. It was the 4th annual singing competition that the radio station has done and it has become a staple at Medaille and has grown every year. This year was the best competition we have had in 4 years in my opinion. Junior Media Communications student, Tara Lacell took home the grand prize of $500 as the winner. The celebrity judges were Dan Brawn-Winner of Star Search 2007 , Mary Beth Wrobel- WIVB Channel 4 meteorologist, and Rob Lucas-Star 102.5 radio show host. Linda Rodgers took home the 3rd place prize of $100 as Alyson Franklin went home with the 2nd place $250 prize. For the third straight year, the individual who came in 3rd place the year before, went home with the grand prize as the winner of Star Search. Dan Brawn came came in 3rd in the 2nd Annual Star Search and the next year he won it all. The same year Brawn came in 1st, Lacell came in 3rd place. Kyle Skoney, Chris Muscarella, and Matthew Kushner were the hosts for the evening.
It was a great year for big events but was not such a great year on-air. Only 4 shows stayed on all year long. Brian Mendola and Leon-Ryan Adams were staples all year long with their music shows. We look forward to more participation next year.

It’s the end of the year and you know what that means, end of the year parties. Since WMCB did not have a party last year, we thought it would be a good idea to throw a party.
The party will take place on May 2nd at Chef’s restaurant. The time will be announced real soon so stay tuned to the station.
May 2nd is also Matty K’s 22nd birthday so we will be celebrating that there too.

The experts were correct. They said that Memphis’ downfall was going to be their free throw shooting, especially in clutch situations.
Kansas was down 9 points with just minutes left in the National Championship game. The Jayhawks were forced to foul the Tigers and hope that they would make all of field goals on the other end.
As time dwindled down, the Jayhawks were able to hit big shot after big shot as they fouled the Tigers. With less than a minute on the clock, Douglass-Roberts went to the free throw line and missed two foul shots. Kansas went down the court and made a 2-pointer to cut Memphis’ lead to just 2 points at 62-60. The Jayhawks fouled Derrick Rose with 1o seconds to go in the game. The Tigers freshman sensation only needed to make both free throws and it would give Memphis the title. Rose missed the first but made the second free throw opening up the door for Kansas to hit a 3-pointer to tie the game and take it to overtime. With 2 second on the clock Mario Chalmers hit a miraculous shot to take the game to the extra session.
I f the Tigers could make free throws in the clutch, they would be the 2008 National Champion today but they couldn’t hit the clutch free throws and they lost 75-68 in overtime. The experts were right about Memphis. Good for them, it doesn’t happen often!

I can’t believe that it is April already and it is almost time for finals and to say goodbye to the seniors once again. The end of the year also means that we have one more meeting for WMCB the Lizzard before we saw goodbye for the summer.
The next meeting has not been scheduled yet but will be posted as soon as it is planned.
Management for next year will be officially announced and we will say good bye to the seniors and we will discuss our plans for the new year.
